Every stage
Support That Grows With Your Child
Anxiety looks different at 6 than it does at 16. Here is how we help Mokena families at each stage.
Early Elementary
Separation worries, tummy aches before school and big meltdowns. Sidra works with children as young as 5, using play, games and drawing.
Upper Elementary and Middle School
Friend drama, homework battles and the bigger expectations that come with each new grade in Mokena School District 159.
High School
Students from District 159 head to Lincoln-Way Central in New Lenox, and families in the 157-C and 161 parts of town head to Lincoln-Way East.
After Graduation
Leaving for college, starting work or living at home while figuring things out.

Changing schools
The Move to Lincoln-Way Central, Right Here in New Lenox
For most Mokena families, the high school years happen in New Lenox. Students from Mokena School District 159 attend Lincoln-Way Central, which is just minutes from our office. That can make after-school sessions a little easier to fit in.
Moving into a large high school can stir up a lot at once: finding your way between classes, looking for a new lunch table, harder classes and more independence. Some teens settle in within a few weeks. Others start dreading school, complaining of stomachaches or pulling away from friends.
Our founder, Jessica Davis, watched her older sister struggle with the move from elementary to middle school, and saw how much the right support helped her family through the changes that followed. Read more about counseling for life transitions.

For parents
How We Keep Parents in the Loop
Parents of younger kids often ask how much they will hear. Here is how it works at Davis-Smith Mental Health.
| Children under 12 | Parents usually get an update at the end of each session, so you know what we are working on and how to help at home. |
| Teens 12 and older | Confidentiality laws protect what teens share, with a few safety exceptions. We encourage teens to fill you in themselves. |
| General updates | For clients 12 and older, we can still share a general sense of progress when you ask. |
| Your observations | You can always tell us what you are seeing at home. It helps your child’s therapist, even when they can’t share details back. |
| School meetings | Our therapists can attend IEP meetings for $150 per hour. |

What sessions look like
Therapy for Younger Kids Looks a Lot Like Play
Young children don’t always have words for worry. Our therapists meet them where they are.
Games, Drawing and Role-Play
With younger clients, sessions often include games, drawing or role-play, so kids can open up in a way that feels natural.
Naming Big Feelings
Kids learn to notice what worry feels like in their body and give it a name. That small step makes big feelings easier to handle.
Skills for Hard Mornings
For kids who dread school, we practice small, doable steps for getting out the door, and we share the strategies we are using so parents can help at home.
Patience for Every Kind of Learner
Sidra spent four years working one-on-one with children and teens with autism and intellectual disabilities. If your child learns differently or needs extra time to open up, you won’t need to explain that world to her.
