Trauma Therapist

inspired by healing

Trauma doesn’t look the same for everyone. For some people, it’s physical or sexual abuse. For others, it’s something they have never been able to put into words, but it still shows up in how they feel about themselves, how they handle school or work, and how safe they feel in their own mind and body. For more than 10 years, I have worked with people on some of the hardest days of their lives. As a trauma therapist, I want you to know that whatever you are carrying, you don’t have to carry it alone.

For three of those years, I was a Child Protection Specialist with the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS). I sat with children and teens who had lived through abuse, neglect, and serious conflict at home, and many of them shared things they had never told anyone, simply because they finally felt safe enough to say it out loud. I also have a special passion for kids in foster care and kids who have been adopted, especially those still adjusting to life in a new home. Even in the most loving family, that transition can stir up fear, anger, and a lot of questions about where they belong.

This is a tough time in the world, and people aren’t always kind to each other. I believe every person deserves one place where they feel safe, heard, and respected.

That is what I want my office to be: a safe space and an outlet. I am a listening ear first, and I also offer real guidance along the way. We will talk about the hard things when you are ready, and we will also get to know who you are as a whole person, including your interests, your strengths, what makes you laugh, and what you hope for your future. You are so much more than what happened to you.

I work with children ages 10 and up, teens, and adults, and I help clients with trauma, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and school problems. My goal is not only to understand what happened and where the hurt is coming from. It is to help you actually work through it, so the trauma stops holding you back.

Work History

Danielle Moon’s Experience

Great experience matters

I bring more than 10 years of experience in behavioral health, child welfare, and case management. As a Child Protection Specialist with Illinois DCFS, I completed more than 150 child welfare investigations, assessed safety for families in crisis, and advocated for children and families in court. With Lutheran Social Services, I coordinated trauma-informed services for families and joined IEP and 504 meetings to make sure kids got the school support they needed. I have also worked in healthcare as a care coordinator, helping clients and families get connected to the services they need.

In my current role as a school social worker and acting behavioral health lead, I provide individual and group support for students working through trauma, emotional regulation, and behavioral challenges, and I step in when a student is in crisis. I am also CPI certified in crisis prevention and intervention.

My approach is trauma-informed, which means we move at a pace that feels safe for you, and you always have a voice in what we work on. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help you notice the thoughts that keep you stuck and practice healthier ways to respond, along with grounding and breathing skills that help your body feel calm again. With younger clients, I often use games, feelings activities, and role-play so sessions feel comfortable instead of scary. I also see parents and caregivers as partners. You know your child best, and I will keep you involved along the way. I believe in facing hard things instead of avoiding them, not to relive the pain, but to work through it and come out stronger.

Danielle Moon’s Ultimate Goal

My ultimate goal as a trauma therapist is for every client to leave with real skills, comfort in their mind and body, and the confidence to know that their trauma does not define them. Together, we can turn that pain into power.
